Frequently asked
What is Pinnicale?
An information site about sports betting in Ontario. We explain how markets are priced, what each bet type means, and which settlement rules differ between operators. We do not take bets, hold money, or run an account of any kind.
Do you accept wagers?
No. There is nothing to register for and no balance to fund. If you have arrived looking for a sportsbook, this is not one.
Are the odds on the site live?
No. Every price and fixture shown here is illustrative, used to demonstrate how a market works. The board on the homepage rotates with the calendar date so the examples stay fresh, but it is not a feed. Check the real market with an operator before acting on anything.
Do you sell tips or predictions?
No, and we never will. Nobody here sends selections by email, direct message or any other channel. If you receive something claiming to be a Pinnicale tip, it is not from us.
How do I read decimal odds?
Divide one by the price to get the implied probability. A price of 4.00 implies 25 per cent. Multiply the price by your stake to get the total return including the stake. The bets offered page works through this in more detail.
Why do the two sides add up to more than 100 per cent?
That excess is the operator’s margin, built into the price. It is how a sportsbook makes money and it applies to every bet regardless of outcome. Tighter markets have smaller excess.
Is sports betting legal in Ontario?
Yes, through operators registered with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and operating in the iGaming Ontario market, and through the provincial lottery corporation. The minimum age is 19. Rules differ in other provinces.
How do I know an operator is licensed here?
The AGCO and iGaming Ontario both publish lists of registered operators. Checking the official register takes under a minute and is more reliable than any badge displayed on a website.
My bet was voided. Why?
The most common reasons are a postponement beyond the operator’s window, an abandoned event, a venue change, a scratched listed pitcher, a player who took no part in a prop, or a palpable pricing error. The betting rules page covers each.
A soccer match was won in extra time and my bet lost. Is that right?
Almost certainly yes. Standard soccer markets settle on 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalties are excluded unless the market says otherwise.
My hockey bet lost in a shootout.
Most hockey moneylines include overtime and the shootout, so a regulation tie does not refund. Regulation-only markets are listed separately.
Can I get a bet cancelled after placing it?
Generally no. Some operators offer a very short grace window or an edit feature, but a placed bet is a completed transaction. Cash out, where offered, is a separate transaction at a worse price, not a cancellation.
I have a dispute with a sportsbook. What do I do?
Exhaust the operator’s own complaints process first and keep everything in writing. If that fails, an Ontario-registered operator falls under the AGCO’s standards and there is a formal escalation route. We cannot intervene on your behalf.
Why did the book limit my stakes?
Commercial decision. Operators are allowed to restrict individual accounts and most do. It is in the terms and there is no obligation on them to explain it.
Do I pay tax on winnings in Canada?
For a recreational bettor, gambling winnings are generally not taxable income in Canada. Someone betting as a business is treated differently. This is general information, not tax advice, so ask an accountant about your own position.
How do I set a deposit limit?
Every licensed Ontario operator must provide them in the account settings. Decreases usually apply immediately; increases carry a delay by design. The responsible gaming page covers the full set of tools.
I think I have a gambling problem.
ConnexOntario answers at 1-866-531-2600, free and confidential, twenty-four hours a day, and also offers chat and email. It costs nothing and there is no waiting list to talk to someone.
How do I contact you?
Through the contact page. We read everything and reply to anything that needs a reply. We cannot help with account or withdrawal problems at an operator.
Still stuck?
Send it through and we will answer it. Questions that keep coming back end up on this page.
