POLICY
What we collect, why, and what you can do about it. Last reviewed 28 September 2026.
In plain terms
Pinnicale is a reading site. There is no account to create, no wallet to fund and no betting history to store, so the amount of personal information involved is small by design.
What we do collect is the ordinary technical data any website receives, basic anonymous measurement of which pages get read, and whatever you choose to type into the contact form.
What we collect
Technical data
IP address, browser and operating system, device type, referring page, and the date and time of your visit. Received automatically by the web server as part of delivering the page.
Usage data
Which pages are opened, in what order, and roughly how long they are read. Collected in aggregate so we can tell which explanations are working.
Contact data
Your name, email address and message, but only if you use the contact form or write to us. Nothing is pre-filled and nothing is required beyond what the form asks.
Cookie data
Small files stored by your browser. See the cookie policy for the full breakdown and how to refuse the non-essential ones.
What we never collect
Payment details, banking information, government identification, and any record of bets. We have no mechanism to receive them and no reason to want them.
Special categories
We do not knowingly collect health, biometric, political or other sensitive personal information, and we ask that you do not include any in a contact message.
Why we hold it
To run the site. Serving pages, keeping them fast, and defending against abuse and automated attacks.
To improve what we publish. Aggregate reading patterns tell us which pages need rewriting. This is measurement, not profiling, and it is not used to build a picture of you as an individual.
To answer you. If you send a message, we use your details to reply to it. That is the whole purpose.
To meet legal obligations. Where a law requires us to retain or disclose something, we comply with it.
Under PIPEDA and Ontario law
We operate under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. Where you give us information directly, such as through the contact form, that is express consent for the purpose you gave it for. Where information is collected automatically to deliver and secure the site, we rely on implied consent for a purpose a reasonable person would consider appropriate. Non-essential cookies are set only where you have agreed to them.
Who else sees it
We do not sell personal information. We do not trade it, rent it, or hand it to advertisers to build profiles.
A small number of service providers process data on our behalf in order to keep the site running: web hosting, content delivery and privacy-oriented analytics. They act on our instructions and are not permitted to use the data for their own purposes.
We disclose information beyond that only when a Canadian law, court order or lawful authority requires it.
Some providers operate servers outside Canada, which means data may be processed in another country and be subject to that country’s legal process. We use providers with recognised safeguards in place.
How long we keep it
Server logs are kept for a short operational period and then deleted. Aggregate analytics are retained in summary form only, without anything that identifies a person. Contact messages are kept while the conversation is live and for a reasonable period after, then deleted.
We do not keep personal information longer than the purpose it was collected for requires.
What you can ask us to do
You can ask what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy of it. You can ask us to correct anything inaccurate. You can ask us to delete information we no longer need. You can withdraw consent, including for cookies, at any time. You can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe we have handled your information improperly.
Requests go through the contact page. We respond within thirty days, and we may need to verify that the request comes from you before acting on it.
Under 19
This site is written for adults and the legal betting age in Ontario is 19. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. If you believe a minor has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Two last things
The site is served over HTTPS and access to anything we store is restricted. No online system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise, but the small amount of data involved here limits the exposure considerably.
If this policy changes materially we will update the review date at the top of the page and publish the new version here.
